THE GIRL HAS FLOWN

SYNOPSIS
The Girl has Flown tells the story of Nadia, a troubled and troubling teen who lives in Trieste, a border city between a host of different cultures, a place swept by a powerful wind, in which the protagonist grows cultivating a solitude from which she will escape in a most unexpected manner.

DIRECTOR'S NOTES

It's a story comprised of characters that are prey to a life of disorder and inertia. Nadia is an attractive young girl who lives her life against a shaded gray backdrop, with a loving family that is however stuck in the destiny of a periphery, that, while perhaps not degraded, is nonetheless difficult and slipshod. It is set in Trieste, a city with clean streets and a sumptuous center, pressed between old working class neighborhoods and strong Balkan presences. But the story is universal and could be set in any city, big or small, Italian or foreign. In conclusion: life is much more contradictory than the fictions describing it. And there is scarce little space for passing judgment.

Wilma Labate returns to full length features with a work that is at once humble and edgy, and inevitably focused on the hard-fought and subtractive recitation of the ever-brilliant Alma Noce. She is the one forced to tolerate the stalking - at times downright Dardennian - of the camera and the full weight of an emotionally claustrophobic but never self-satisfied story. No self-indulgence at all but an openness to the pathways of life, its violences and the hurtful decisions that are forced to be made.
